Rent Gästehaus Eltz for your holiday in Altaussee — three bedrooms, two fireplaces, one baby grand. Swiss stone pine, marble kitchen, and views of the Loser, Sarstein and Dachstein peaks. For up to six guests.
Close to the lake, close to the village — and still, the quiet. At Gästehaus Eltz, everything a stay in Altaussee can be is gathered under one roof.
Newly built, yet inside it carries the handwriting of an entire life: old paintings beside Swiss stone pine beds, a 1930 baby grand beside a Thermomix, a green tiled stove beside the induction hob. Three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom; two living rooms with fireplaces; a dining table for fourteen. Six guests sleep in comfort — there is always room for friends in the evening.
The house stands in Puchen, on the southern edge of Altaussee. A few minutes on foot along the river Traun bring you to the lake. The village centre is close, but beyond the garden gate there is silence.
Swiss stone pine – Zirbe – is known as the queen of the Alps. It grows only high up, slowly, over centuries. At Gästehaus Eltz it has a room of its own – and lies in every bed in the house.
Our Zirbe room is crafted entirely from solid stone pine, floor to ceiling: walls, wardrobe and bed from a single, warmly glowing wood. And throughout the house every guest sleeps in a stone pine bed – on what may be the healthiest place to rest the Alps have to offer.
This is more than scent and beautiful grain. A widely cited sleep study by Joanneum Research and the Human Research Institute showed that stone pine measurably calms the body: a lower heart rate that saves the heart up to 3,500 beats a day – almost an hour of cardiac work. Heart, circulation and blood pressure ease, sleep grows deeper, recovery faster, and even changes in the weather lose their sting.
You rarely notice it while you enjoy it. You simply sleep more soundly, wake more clearly – and carry a little health home with you without ever realising.

From the rooms to life with a dog to Altaussee itself — here you'll find every detail.
Lake Altaussee is only a few minutes' walk along the Traun. But at home in Gästehaus Eltz, the panorama already begins at the breakfast table — and ends only when the last light leaves the peaks.
Loser and Schönberg catch the morning light; Trisselwand and Tressenstein hold the noon; Hochanger and Sandling carry the afternoon blue; Dachstein and Plattenkogel turn red at dusk. Eight summits to keep you company through the day — and no two windows that show the same.
